The Entrepreneur's Bible: Business at its Best

What Sucks About Start-up Life

We often write about how great the start-up life is and how it’s great to build something from scratch.

But there is a less exciting side to all of that.  So here is a quick list of the things that suck about the start-up life:

  1. There is no such thing as free time. Getting a company going and being successful takes every ounce of energy and time.  There really is no such thing as free time.
  2. It is a lot of hard work. Creating a successful enterprise is not easy.  It is tons of sweat and brain power.  If you want something easy, go get a job.
  3. You are often not paid. The current compensation that is given to most start-up founders is VERY low.  You can almost always make more current salary from taking a job almost anywhere.
  4. You are going to fail. Most start-ups completely fail, but even if they are successful you will have mini-failures almost every day.

This list is not meant to discourage you.  It is only meant to make sure you know that no start-up ever has it easy.  And the great successes that may come are only born from sacrifice.
