Recently I attended a conference for local entrepreneurs. Several of the attendees brought topics for discussion during the round table. The topic that was of most interest to me was how to give your website a feel of credibility to visitors. I offered two suggestions to the entrepreneur, both of which are fairly simple to implement.
First, create an About page. When visiting an unfamiliar website, many visitors look for an About page to learn more about the company and its products or services. Things that visitors like to learn are:
- Who are the key members of your team?
- How old is your company?
- How was your company formed?
- What makes your company special?
Once a visitor knows information such as this, the website no longer feels like a cold, unknown entity. It becomes a place of familiarity, which is more likely to lead to sales and return visits.
Second, make sure that your content is written well. Something as simple as following grammar and spelling rules can make a huge impact on how your site is viewed by visitors. For more in-depth advice, you can read this article that I wrote last year.
Whether you are trying to increase your site’s credibility, build a bigger audience, or are working on a redesign, an About page is an addition not to be skipped.
